There are 350 million people worldwide collectively impacted by 7,000 different rare diseases. Treatment options are few if any and there are no cures. Fifty percent of rare diseases have no organization or foundation supporting or representing them.
Sunday, April 8 Rare Disease Rockstars from the Lake Zurich area gathered at Second Nature Salon for the Second Annual Rock Your Locks Fundraiser supporting the mission of Harmony 4 Hope (H4H) which was created in 2014 to shine the spotlight on all Rare Diseases. This year, the lovely ladies of Second Nature Salon rocked the runway with locks AND FROCKS. Trending spring fashions were provided by local sensation, House of Betty Jane, a fashion forward boutique, taking the community by storm.
Special thanks to Tricia Bohn, H4H Director of Special Events, Agnieszka Gryc, owner of Second Nature Salon and Doreen Batchelor, House of Betty Jane proprietor for their time, comittment and generosity for this cause. The afternoon was infused with high energy LIVE music from Kevin and Sydney -the local father daughter duo and our very own Rare Storyteller and #RockKindness trailblazer, Peter Dankelson.
To date H4H has donated thousands of dollars to rare disease discoveries happening at Chicago's reputable Rush University Medical Center. We have delivered music therapy and hundreds of gifts of music to affected children and families and the growing H4H Rare Storytellers Team has educated over 500 future physicians and healthcare practitioners at Northwestern's Feinberg School of Medicine, Rush Medical College and Marquette University, College of Health Sciences. This fall we will expand this program to Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW).
All proceeds from this event support the three pronged mission of H4H to FUEL scientific discoveries in rare disease, EDUCATE future physicians and healthcare practitioners and SHARE gifts of MUSIC and music therapy with affected patients and families.
Thank you for your support and generosity!
