The storytelling aspect creates new knowledge and encourages caring and empathy within the next generation of physicians and healthcare professions, helping to build character and competency for the future,” New knowledge is a key component of precision medicine. Precision medicine leads researchers to develop more effective care and prevention strategies based off a single person’s genetic code. This is why research matters – without academic research we wouldn’t have reached this level of discovery of being able to treat cancers and diseases with a specificity that can truly rewrite patients’ futures. We need to support awareness and research to optimize data-driven healthcare throughout the continuum of care.”

Harmony 4 Hope is a reflection of my own heart. I absolutely LOVE the Rare Storytellers Educational Series because I've always been a believer in the power of a story...the pouring out into words, the crafting of an experience so personal and painful and yet so healing for the storyteller and how this story can become an instrument of inspiration and change for those who hear it. I am compelled to always tell our story and I'm so proud of Claire for now feeling brave enough to tell it in her own words.

I share my high praise of The H4H Rare Storytellers Program. It is informative, emotional and inspiring. I’m so pleased that we will make this an annual event at Marquette University. It is important for our students and our community to witness what a big difference a little kindness can make.

Harmony 4 Hope is an exceptional way to supplement medical education with meaningful exposure to patients and their side of the story. It is incredibly important for us to hear the stories of the forgotten diseases and the number of difficulties and obstacles that these brave families have to overcome to simply hear a diagnosis or fundraise for a treatment.

I am truly touched by the dedication of the Harmony 4 Hope team for motivating medical students to choose a career towards rare disease. This is probably the smartest way to help patients with rare diseases. Funds from Harmony 4 Hope helped us to repurpose a drug that has recently received orphan drug designation from US Food and Drug Administration and European Medicines Agency for the treatment of Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis.

As someone with a rare disease, osteogenesis imperfecta, I love being a small part of a very large community of those touched by rare diseases. That's what makes Harmony 4 Hope a special opportunity for me. Individually a disease may be rare but collectively the number of people impacted is hugely significant.
